As you see under the ACP program, you get up to a $30 monthly discount that includes a free talk and text alongside 5 GB of monthly high-speed data.
Additionally, if the data is consumed, you get unlimited 2G network speed so that you can continue browsing on your mobile for the rest of the month. The customers living in the qualifying tribal lands get up to a $75/month discount.
If you want to upgrade your phone to higher data caps, then $30 monthly billing will be deducted from the original bill and you can choose your own plan.

As you see if you upgrade to a $40-a-month plan on MetroPCS, then you will have to pay only $20 a month if you are a registered ACP household.

Eligibility:
You can apply if you are a participant in the following program, or the household income is below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or one member of your family meets the following criteria -
- Earlier participant in the Lifeline program
- Received a Federal Pell grant
- SSI
- SNAP
- Medicaid
- WIC
- Survivor Benefits or Veterans Pension
- Free and reduced School Breakfast or School Lunch Program
- Participants in Federal Housing Assistance such as HCV, Public Housing, Project Based Rental Assitance (PBRA)
Those who live in the below-mentioned qualifying tribals' lands can get a discount of up to $75 a month -
- Tribal TANF
- Tribal Head Start (Income based)
- Food distribution programs or Indian Reservations
- Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
Remember that only one customer per household can be under the ACP program and you will have to use your phone at least once a month or else it will get deactivated.
Free Metro Phone vs Metro ACP Plan Phone:
As I check on the T-Mobile Metro website, there is a free 5G phone when you switch to Metro and people often get confused with such terms because there is also a free smartphone from Metro by T-Mobile if you opt for the ACP plan discount. So what's the difference?
Let me explain it here -
With the free 5G phone when you switch offers, you will have to leave your current network and port it to MetroPCS and it provides an instant rebate off the full retail price. As stated in the terms and conditions, there is an activation fee charged by them, and do make sure to read out its terms and conditions.
Whereas in the free ACP phone plan, you will not have to pay anything if you qualify. You will get a free smartphone along with a $30 monthly wireless phone credit.
Metro by T-Mobile Free Tablet:
Under the ACP program, you definitely get a new smartphone with a $30 discount on phone billing but some network also offers a free tablet PC and it's up to the users if they want they can get it because it's an optional offer.
Actually, this is not a free tablet as there is an upfront or activation fee. You will have to pay a $10 activation fee in advance to get this tablet. This is a one-time fee and non-refundable but I believe this is worth it for the reason that it can be used for entertainment and education purposes.
